East Herts & Broxbourne Community Badminton Network
EH CBN comprises all interested clubs (Junior and Adult), schools, college, sport facilities, trying to represent those interested in promoting and supporting badminton in the borough. Our network has recently been extended to include the Broxbourne borough.

We formed in 2014 after an initial approach by Badminton England. However, we decided to not take up their offer as we felt their conditions were not compatible with our views and ideas.
We started with five junior clubs and hope we can encourage all East Herts and Broxbourne clubs to participate in our plans. We (the club coaches) have visited many of the participating member clubs to help and learn from each other, as sometimes we can feel isolated in our own little world.
We have held several tournaments at Ware Drill Hall to which club members and their parents have been invited. We hope to link with other Hertfordshire CBNs to promote badminton for juniors and adults across the county.

Racket Pack Festival at Chauncy on Monday 16th June
The Hertford & Ware Schools Sports Partnership teamed up with the East Herts Community Badminton Network to provide a Racket Pack Festival for 80 primary school children on Monday 16th June at Chauncy School in Ware.
10 Key Stage 2 children from 8 different schools attended and took part in eight different badminton-related activities, which were led enthusiastically by Year 7 sports leaders from Chauncy. Ian Robinson ( National Badminton Juniors), Doug Clark (All Saints JBC) and Neil Clarke ( Much Hadham JBC), assisted Lisa Robinson ( HWSSP) in hosting the event.
The next schools event from HWSSP and EHCBN is the Wodson Primary School Games on 18th September.

Live Longer Better Dementia Day at Wodson Park on Friday 6th June 2025
Delivered by Ian and Bob, over a dozen people came to try the game across the two morning sessions. Two police officers, a few retired couples, several carers and a lady in her wheelchair all took part and enjoyed their morning before heading to the cafe for a well earned lunch.

Badminton for the Hertford and Ware SSP year 5 Olympic style event at Wodson Thursday 6 June 24
Brian Jackson and I spent yesterday helping to organise the badminton for the Hertford and Ware SSP year 5 Olympic style event at Wodson. About a dozen schools from East Herts arrived in the morning to compete in various events, and then a different dozen from the same area attended in the afternoon. A highlight is the opening ceremony where the schools are supposed to march in an orderly procession around the track waving their chosen nation’s flag, but the message doesn’t seem to get across and they start racing each other. The chaotic fun was quite hilarious.
We were asked to organise a 45-minute training session followed by a 45-minute tournament with medals for the winners, and a special medal for the individual who displayed core values ( honesty, determination, perseverance, passion etc). We distributed medals, certificates and flyers to the 36 players who took part. Lisa Robinson is the SGO in charge, and we have a Year 5 Racket Pack Tournament at Presdales scheduled for the 19th June.

Payment will be taken at the half term, rather than up front, as so many people are having to isolate through no fault of their own. For now, I just need to know who is planning on turning up. I provide rackets, nets and shuttles but players need to turn up dressed for activity.
Kind regards

After a discussion with the Essex Boys and Girls Clubs organisers about offering badminton in Harlow, it was suggested that the Harlow police cadets may be keen, and further discussions, with PC Rob Hance, led to organising a taster evening at the Harlow Leisurezone.
15 teenagers from the Harlow Police Cadets joined in for some coaching, fun games and competitions at Harlow Leisure Centre, led by coach Ian Robinson. The well received two-hour taster was funded by the East Herts Community Badminton Network, through their Awards 4 All grant. Although technically not in Hertfordshire, Harlow is geographically directly beside Broxbourne and feeds many participants to the clubs and groups along the A10 corridor.
There were racket prizes for the winning boy and girl in the mixed doubles competition, and everybody received a Badminton England pen along with local club information.
