The 2022 Restricted Tournament took place at the Hertfordshire Sports Village over the weekend of 1/2 October 2022. 62 players from across the County took part, from teenagers to veterans, with 87 matches played. Nick Goode, HBA President, presented the trophies.
Men’s Singles
In the men’s singles there were 16 entries in six boxes with the top player in each group going through to the quarter finals. In the final Jack Taylor met Ben Vranjkovic, in a tight match, with Jack eventually winning 24-22, 21-13.

Ladies Singles
In the ladies singles there were ten entries with three boxes. Abbie Smith and Holly Clayton made it through it the final. In another gruelling match, Abbie won 21-23, 21-16, 21-7.

Mens Doubles
There were 16 pairs in the men’s doubles so it was played as a knock out, with a plate competition for the first round losers. Nick Ponting and Harry Goode played Chris Adey and Stephen Elliott in the final with Nick and Harry winning a really tight match 24-22, 24-22. After having the misfortune to draw the eventual winners in the first round, Dan Miller and Neal Quah beat Levin Mathew and David Westwood 21-15, 21-13 in the final of the plate competition. |

Ladies Doubles
There were nine pairs in three boxes in the ladies doubles with Natalie Barton and Abbie Smith meeting Molly Goode and Kelly Matthews in the final. It was another tight match which Mollie and Kelly eventually won 19-21, 21-18, 21-17. |

Mixed Doubles
There were a massive 18 pairs in the mixed doubles which were split into six boxes. Nick Ponting and Natalie Barton met Harry and Jo Goode in the final and in a high-quality match Harry and Jo ran out winners 21-14, 22-20.

It was great to be able to run the tournament at the start of the season again, with all the matches played in the right spirit and everyone enjoying themselves. Many thanks to Simon Gouldstone for his help in running the tournament over the weekend.
