Season Report
Consistency was the key to the performance of the Over 50’s this year. We were able to deliver the results by keeping the team extremely tight and only using 10 players all year. Thanks to:
Men
Graham Cobb
Richard Adams
Gary Starling
Gerald Hanson
Finn Rooney
Ladies
Michelle Cobb
Briony Lacey
Nicky Dewhurst
Diane Brown
Julie Dunlop
Our only losses for the entire season were against Essex home and away. This year we have moved considerably ahead of the other teams in the division, Bucks and Suffolk, and our only disappointment is that the division is so small and there are not many matches.
At the County Challenge weekend we came in joint top in our division with 2 wins against, Surrey, Bucks and Devon and a draw and loss against Cornwall.
The team have been fantastic all year and I would like to thank everyone who have represented Hertfordshire in the Over 50’s. Following the final match of the season the team came together for a celebration of the season at the North Star in Welwyn. Without exception every team member was sad to see the end of season and really keen on carrying on building the team spirit for 2019/2020 season – Bring it on!!!!

Herts v Bucks – Over 50’s
Having beaten all but Essex this year and already beaten Bucks away and twice at the Masters County Challenge Weekend, today’s match was more about being concentrated and not complacent, we knew we had the beating of Bucks.
There was certainly and air of confidence about the team and this was well founded beating Bucks 9-3 cementing our position as runner-up to Essex this year. Every member of the team contributed to this great result and the consistency of the entire team has been a key ingredient for our success this year.

Essex 12 – Herts 0 (6 January 2019)
Despite a 12-0 loss to Essex, who will win the league this year, the match
was considerably closer than the home fixture earlier in the season. The
first match following the Christmas break proved a difficult match. The
Essex squad was incredibly strong and Hertfordshire pushed every game
extremely hard. Well played to every member of the team, we have really
developed an amazing team this season and will finish runners up in the
division providing we win our final fixture in March. Essex will then be the
only team we will have lost to during the season which is a huge step
forward.

Over 50s win against Suffolk
The Herts Over 50’s got back in the winning habit with a superb win away to Suffolk. Matching our home result with a 2-10 win. Well done to everyone in the team and this means that of the 4 matches prior to Christmas we have won all except our match against Essex. The team have been brilliant and the team spirit makes it always great fun and incredibly competitive. We are back in action straight after Christmas away to Essex but we will be aiming to win our 2 remaining matches.

Over 50s against Essex
Down to earth with a bit of a bump – Herts Over 50’s played Essex on Sunday and were unfortunately whitewashed 0-12. Although this has dented our unbeaten run, the team battled in every single match right to the very end. Essex had an incredibly strong team out but we were very close in the Ladies and Mixed matches. Onwards and upwards with Suffolk in a couple of weeks and on the performances so far this year we should be fighting at the top of our division. Great effort from everyone in the team.

Over 50s win 7-5 against Bucks
Two wins on the bounce for the Over 50’s with the entire team doing an amazing job, beating Buckinghamshire 7-5. We welcomed back Briony Lacey from injury who played really well – thanks to Diane Brown who played through injury. The 2 star performers were Graham Cobb winning all 3 of his matches and Gerald Hanson who had really strong games. Onwards and upwards to Essex next week!!!

10-2 win for the Over 50’s vs Suffolk
Great result for the Over 50’s vs Suffolk. Last year we lost 9-3 away and won 7-5 at home. So a 10-2 is a significant step up for the team, looking at the pairs, we really made progress in the Mixed and Ladies winning 3 out of 4 mixed and 3 out of 4 Ladies. The men took a clean sweep winning all of their matches.
Well done to the entire team on a stellar performance.
