Herts O55s secure runners up position
The final match of the season for the O55s was a crucial one – a win against Bucks would make it impossible for Suffolk to overtake us in second place, but a draw or loss would leave us dependant on other results. The match started nervously, with one of our ladies having transport problems meaning that we needed to concede two ladies games. Fortunately the men rose to the occasion, winning three of the four men’s doubles and only just losing the fourth. Our second ladies doubles pair shared their games, but only lost to Bucks first pair 21-19 in the third end – a great effort! That left the match finely poised 4 – 4, meaning that we had to win 3 of the mixed. First mixed went to Bucks in two ends, second and third mixed in two ends to Herts, leaving the fourth mixed. We lost the first end 21-19, but made a storming comeback in the second 21-11. A nip and tuck third end saw us finally win 21-16, so a 7 – 5 victory overall – never in doubt!! Suffolk O55s win return match
Having beaten them earlier in the season, Suffolk O55s turned the tables on us last weekend in Ipswich, winning the return fixture 8-4. In the men’s, 3 of the 4 matches went into a third end, but we came out 3-1 up. Two of the ladies games also went to three ends, but unfortunately we lost all, so 5-3 down before the mixed. Despite fighting hard, we only picked up one mixed, giving us the 8-4 loss. This leaves the league finely balanced – we are still second, but if results go against us we may slip behind Suffolk in the final positions. Over 55s beat Bucks 10-2
With a number of drop outs with injuries, and some ‘walking wounded’ playing, this was a great win. Their top men’s pair proved too strong for us, but we went on to win all the other matches. Back-to-back 10-2 results mean that the Over 55’s are a solid second place in the division behind Essex with only two games to play! For full results, visit the Matches page of the BE web site.

O55s lose return against Essex
Although we went into the return match against Essex at Redbridge hoping to reverse the 7-5 loss at home, they proved just too strong, and we lost 9-3. We picked up 1 men’s and 2 mixed, the performance of the day being Tim Moore and Kim Maughan taking second mixed 26-24, 17-21, 22-20, all the more remarkable as they had been elevated from fourth mixed in the previous match! O55s just miss out against Essex
The O55s had an unlucky loss to a very strong Essex side, losing 7-5. The first round of games left us 3-1 down, with us only winning one men’s, but with some really close games. After observing the 2 minutes silence, the next round was shared at 2-2, but again two of those games could have gone our way. That left us with the daunting challenge of having to win all four mixed! Despite our best efforts, we only managed two, but a major improvement from last year’s fixture when we lost all four. All in all, although disappointed to have lost, a great result against one of the strongest counties in the country! Full results can be found here.

Great result for O55s v Suffolk
The O55s continue their campaign with an 8-4 win over Suffolk, overturning last season’s 8-4 defeat. Both the men’s and ladies’ games were shared, so we went into the mixed 4-4, but all the games were very close – the ladies in particular, with 2-2 on events, 6-5 on matches and 198-198 on points! Last season we lost all but one mixed, but this season we won all comfortably for a resounding 8-4 victory – never in doubt! For the full results see the Matches page of the BE web site.

Over 55’s beat Cambridgeshire 10-2
A great start to the season for the Over 55’s with a victory over Cambridgeshire. Their first men’s proved too strong for us on the day, beating both our pairs, but all the other games went our way. Well done to all. For full results, visit the Matches page of the BE web site.
